Multi-Pet Record Keeping: How to Keep Histories Separate and Useful

Why do multi-pet records become confusing?

The problem is rarely a lack of notes. It is that notes for several animals share the same calendar, receipts, messages and household routines. Months later, a weight entry or expense without a clear pet identity is much less useful.

Attach every record to a pet

Medication references, doses, weight, health observations, veterinary visits, expenses, documents and daily-care events should all carry a pet identity. That makes filtering and caregiver handoffs far safer than relying on memory or color-coded free-text notes.

Keep shared routines separate from veterinary records

A household may have recurring feeding, walking or grooming routines, but those routine notes should not be confused with prescriptions or veterinary instructions. Record what your household chose or was told, and keep the source of clinical instructions clear.

Use the right level of tool

Move between editions safely

V1 and 2.0 use separate browser storage so opening the classic app cannot overwrite 2.0 Daily Care data. To move classic records into 2.0, export a JSON backup from V1 and restore it in 2.0, then verify the imported records before relying on the new copy.

Keep independent backups

Local-first pet records stay on the device/browser rather than in a required GentleTools cloud account. That privacy tradeoff also means the household should keep independent exports if the history matters.
