A phone reminder tells you to do something on Tuesday. It does not tell you whether you actually did it, and by Thursday you genuinely cannot remember whether the flea treatment went on or whether you were interrupted halfway through and put the pipette down. A dated log can reduce the need to reconstruct the last entry from memory, but the page does not verify whether another dose should be given.
Logging the dose as you give it fixes that, and it does one more thing: it gives you a record. When the vet asks when the last wormer was, or when the boarding kennel wants proof of a booster, or when a new vet takes over the practice and the notes are thin, you have dates instead of a guess.
Everything that repeats. Flea and tick preventatives, wormers, long-term medication for arthritis, thyroid, heart or skin, and the boosters. Skip anything that is a one-off course of antibiotics unless you want the dates recorded — a seven-day course does not need a repeat interval, though people often add it anyway just to tick off each day.

Each medication has a repeat interval — daily, every few days, weekly, monthly, or every few months. The next due date is counted from the last dose you logged, or from the start date if you have not logged one yet. Vaccines work the same way, counted in months from the date the vet gave it.
