Backpacking Stove Fuel & Canister Planner
Estimate fuel from your own stove and conditions instead of assuming one universal burn rate. Calibrate with a real boil when you can, scale for planned water volume and meals, then add the reserve you choose.
1. Trip & calibration
Best input: weigh the canister before and after a typical boil on your own stove.
2. Fuel plan
| Common canister class | Fuel only | Approx. full weight* | Fuel margin |
|---|
*Generic comparison only. Exact tare/full weights vary by brand and canister. Verify the label and weigh your actual canister when possible.
3. Save, export & backup
Local-first: your stove data, trip plan and saved records stay in this browser. GentleTools does not receive them.

Why calibration beats a generic “grams per boil” number
Two hikers can use the same nominal stove and get very different fuel consumption because one cooks in wind, one uses a wider pot, one simmers and one only boils. A before/after canister weight from a representative boil gives you a better starting point than a universal internet number.
