The 10-day number is not the whole rule
IDEA permits certain short-term removals, but after a child has been removed for 10 school days in the same school year, additional service requirements apply. A disciplinary change of placement can also trigger a manifestation determination. Because a series of shorter removals can become a change of placement based on pattern and context, this tracker never says “safe under 10” or “automatic violation over 10.”
What to bring to a manifestation review
The review considers relevant information including the IEP, teacher observations and relevant parent-provided information. A dated record is useful because it keeps implementation questions, prior removals and parent observations together before the meeting.
